3 May 2014

Performance, Film Without Film section, curated by Mika Taanila.

Zollamt, Bad Radkersburg – Steirischer Herbst Festival

18 September – 23 November 2014

Curated by Luigi Fassi

Routine Inspection is a filmic inspection of a prehistoric cave on the mountainous border between Slovenia and Austria.  A single 16mm roll was used in the cave of Potočka Zijalka – the film tape went from maximal exposure, filming white snow in front of the cave, to minimal exposure and finally absolute darkness of the cave. Instead of a film projection, the 130m long negatives tape was offered to the audience to touch and inspect as evidence. This 10-minute performance was filmed, then the damaged film tape was digitally scanned and both were edited into a 6-minute film.
